William “Joe” Godfrey represents individuals whose civil rights have been violated, those accused of criminal offenses, those needing assistance in family law matters, and those who have been injured by the actions of others. During his career, Joe has been involved in about 30 jury trials where the offenses ranged from simple traffic offenses to serious felony offenses. In representing his clients, he has drafted and filed countless motions including motions for bond, motions to suppress evidence, and motions to dismiss indictments. Not all of his legal experience has been dedicated to litigation, he has also worked as an intern in the Lowndes County Magistrate Court as well as an intern in the Thomas M. Cooley Sixty Plus Elder Law Clinic.

With the exception of living in Lansing, Michigan, while attending Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Joe has lived in South Georgia his entire life, and his family’s ties to South Georgia span generations. Joe is originally from Valdosta, Georgia and moved to Albany, Georgia to practice law at the Dougherty County Public Defender Office. Before leaving Valdosta and after arriving in Albany, Joe was committed to making the communities of South Georgia better places to live. As a result of this commitment, he has served as a panelist for forums, served as a speaker for youth events, made presentations concerning elder law issues, and is a board member of the River Road Family First Community Housing Development Organization. Joe has also spoken at various churches, organizations, and schools across South Georgia, including is the Newsome Street Church of Christ (Hahira, GA), 4 Real Program (Albany, GA), Courtland Ave Church of Christ (Quitman, GA), Robert Cross Middle School (Albany, GA), Tri-City Youth Rally (Valdosta, GA), Stop the Violence Back to School Summit 2011 (Albany, GA), Church Street Church of Christ (Blakely, GA), and the Woodlawn Forrest Church of Christ (Valdosta, GA). Joe believes that his service to the community is a necessary part of his membership to the State Bar of Georgia.

Joe is married to Dominie Godfrey, and they, along with their three children, attend the Fifth Street Church of Christ. He has a passion for all sports, but his favorite sport is football. He loves the Georgia Bulldogs, and he is expecting a National Championship any day now. He loves to read any type of biography as well as the speeches of history’s greatest orators. This affinity for oratory has been crucial in his success as a lawyer and advocate.
